Is there any thing wrong with this sentence?

Most people know of it under the name of Bombay

Hello Anon I think "of" is redundant. "Know of X" is "have some information about X". Here simple "know" (=recognize, identify) would be better.

I think "of" is redundant. "Know of X" is "have some information about X". Here simple "know" (=recognize, identify) would be better. Most people know it (a city?) under the name of "Bombay".

Most people know it by the name "Bombay".
