Hi teachers, could you please check the grammatical mistakes in this essay about the poetry of world war i for me?
At the beginning of the 20th century, the world witnessed the most destructive war in history. It was the reason of the destruction of the biggest empires in the world like Austria and the ottoman country. It didn't only affect the people of the fighting countries, but also the people of the other countries that didn't engage in this war. Millions of people lost their lives and their houses due to this war. During this war, some creative people were able to date these events and describe their horrific effects on people. For example, in the poem "mental cases", the poet said "these are men whose minds the dead have ravished". These poems can be regarded as a live description of world war I events. While the effects of this war were global and can't be enclosed, the events described by poets covered the most important events and people's emotions and interactions with the events.
Firstly, world war I poetry described the state of people during this war and their interactions with what happened then. For example, in the poem "mental cases", Wilfred owen said "multitudinous murders they once witnessed". This line talks about the horror and the deadly scenes the soldiers witnessed in the war. They saw bodies covering the grounds and the earth colored with blood. These scenes made soldiers look and behave like crazy people who lost their minds. Their bodies looked like motionless skeletons that were sick of the war's misery and destruction. As a result of this horror, most of them got mental break down and deformities.
Secondly, a lot of poems talked about the glory and the grace that soldiers fought for. For example, in the poem "the glory of women", the poet talks about how women like to see their husbands, sons or brothers when they come back from the war. He said "you love us when we are heroes, home on leave". This means that women want to see the valor and bravery of soldiers in the war regardless their pains, mental conditions or deformities caused by the war. He also said that people hate and despise the dishonor and the loss in the war, which is normal in the nature of human beings. Finally, he asked them to feel like other women whose sons are sent to wars and they are waiting them to come back home.
Finally, some poets talked about the role of the religion in urging people to go to the war and fight their anti-Christ enemies. For example, in the poem "the Christ and the soldier", Jesus told the soldier "beyond all battles moves the paraclete". This means that soldiers will be protected in their wars against their enemies and that they will win the war because they are protected by the holy spirit. Also, the Bishop said in the poem "they" that soldiers will not be in the same state after they return from the war because they will have fought for an honorable cause. They will fight against their enemies for the supremacy of their nations. However, after the soldiers returned from war, they were tired an shocked of what they have witnessed.
In conclusion, world war I poetry has provided the students of literature with a lot of information and scenes about the brutality of this war and its horror. The topics that the poets talked about were different. Some talked about the soldiers and their valor in defending their countries and some of them talked about the causes that soldiers fought for. By describing the horrors and the soldiers in their wars, these poems can be regarded as a living analysis for the events of this mass destructive war.
