International tourism has brought enormous benefit to many places. At the same time, there is concern about its impact on local inhabitants and the environment. Do the disadvantages of international tourism outweigh the advantages?
It is argued that international tourism has had lots of positive aspect while certain drawbacks could affect to local people and the environment. In this essay, I would discuss both sides before my own view is stated.
Admittedly, there are some weak points of international tourism. First of all, the most serious disadvantage of this field is that it has negative effects on the environment. This means that the more worldwide tourism develop, the more deforestation for construction happen. Moreover, it leads to the increase of level of littering and water pollution. Secondly, international tourism could also make local regions vulnerable to criminal activities. A typical example of this is smuggling or drugs trafficking. More people means more difficult to control and maintain the security in those areas.
However, despite some negative points, international tourism has brought lots of benefits. The greatest advantage is that it helps to raise local’s income. These areas attract more and more tourists, so local inhabitants could establish business to supply tourist services such as crafts, accommodation for rent and food stalls. An additional point in favor of worldwide tourism is that people can introduce local culture to international tourists. Therefore, it could gain international attention and become more popular. Son Doong cave, for instance, which is the largest cave in VietNam, has attracted more people on over the world since it appeared in the famous film KONG: Skull Island. Furthermore, international tourism could improve the infrastructure and tourist facilities of the areas. This leads to boost the overall development of local regions. For example, the road is broaden so that tourists could be easy to move and some house or service central are built a lot.
To sum up, while there are some drawbacks of international tourism, I would believe that the benefits are more than the disadvantages. I also think that the government should invest in this field to make some areas be better and attract more people in the future.
