Topic: As well as making money, businesses also have social responsibilities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The idea that, besides making money, enterprises should also have social obligations remains a source of controversy. Personally, I agree that instead of making profits, companies need to have social responsibilities as well.

On the one hand, companies only can positively contribute to the society when they are in the good financial situation. Firstly, when companies make money, they pay more taxes and the government can use these taxes to spend on public services such as building hospitals, schools or fixing transportations. Besides, the governments can also use these taxes as subsidy to poor people who cannot afford for their lives. Secondly, by getting a huge of money, companies also can grow their business. For example, firms could use their profits for job creation, innovations and product expansion.

On the other hand, companies should not merely aim at maximizing profits, but they have a wider role to play in society. Business must not harm the environment during their manufacturing process. For example, instead of discharge waste to the rivers, enterprises can install waste treatment system to control water solution. Moreover, businesses, which get more earnings, should join hands to help those who are unfortunate. In the case of two big corporations Unilever and Vinamilk, they has created their good images through charity activities and financing scholarship, helping society become a better place for citizens.

In conclusion, although I admit that making profit is a fundamental principle of businesses, I argue that businesses should hold their own responsibility for society.
