The picture illustrates the different stages in the life of a salmon

Overall, there are five main stages in the development of a salmon, beginning with spawning, when eggs are laid and ending with the adult salmon.

At the first stage of the process, it can be seen that the adult salmon lay a number of eggs. Then, the eggs are incubated and developed into tiny fish. Subsequently, the yound fish move downstream to freshwater where they are reared and migrate to estuaries where fresh water and sea water meet.

Next, the salmon migrate to rearing areas where they grow quickly in size. Finally, when the fish have growth and become mature, they are ready to migrate to spawning areas. The whole cycle is then ready to begin again.
