Hi,

Is the following sentence correct?

"Recently the band was asked to comment on their future"

ALSO...

Is it okay to use a band as a plural, for instance,

"In October, U2 return with a new album"

Regarding the second sentence: I am narrating a past story in the present tense: "In October, U2 return with a new album"

In not quite certain what "narrating a past story in the present tense" means. If you are reporting on past activities of U2, you should say "In October, U2 returned with a new album."
If you are telling readers what U2 will be doing in October 2012, you may say "In October, U2 return with a new album." or "In October, U2
