Task 2: The only way to improve safety of our roads is to give much stricter punishments for driving offences. What extent do you agree or disagree?
In this day and age, a great number of accidents occured on the roads due to the fact that some broke the laws. They may be drunk when controlling a car or having crossed the traffic lights and led to the deaths of many innocent people. As a result, it is argued that they should receive stricter punishments such as a prison sentence or a death penalty. However, I disagree with those suggestions since raising people’s awareness about safe driving and fining are better solutions.
On the one hand, some people believe that only by putting those who commit traffic crimes to prison can they regret about what they have done. As a result, when being set free, they are likely to obey the laws. However, this option only raise fear and show no forgiveness. To those who commit such a minor crime, this can ruin their future or even end their lives.
On the other hand, there are other ways to punish driving offences. To begin with, raising people’s awareness can greatly reduce the number of traffic accidents. For example, teaching students about traffic signs or wearing a helmet so that they can be more cautious when driving. Moreover, governments can enact laws about fining those who cause a traffic crime. Since many people do not want to lose money for such trivial mistakes, they can be more careful when driving.
In conclusion, although stricter punishments may be controversial, teaching people about safe driving and penalizing traffic crimes with fines can contribute to road safety.
