Topic: Many developing countries are currently expanding their tourist industries. Why is this the case? Is it a positive or negative development?

In this day and age, it is due to the improvement in the living standard, tourism has become an option of many people. As a result, more and more countries are investing in this field. In my opinion, this trend occurs on the ground of some factors and it is a negative trend.

To begin with, this phenomenon is derived from several reasons. In the first instance, as the potential of tourism in developing countries have yet to be exploited, many organizations have allocated money for this thriving industry. By way of illustration, Vingroup, which is one of the biggest companies in Viet Nam, regards tourism as its primary source of profit. Furthermore, tourism enables cultural diversity. If a country welcomes millions of visitors per year, it can adopt cultures and traditions from all over the world. Consequently, a number of governments are spending on tourist industry.

However, this trend may lead to some adverse effects. First, although tourism can boost a nation’s economic system, a majority of locals would not benefit from it. Since big companies can take advantage of tourism through hotels or services, the underprivileged can only make a profit from souvenir and small gifts. Moreover, tourism can also be detrimental to the environment. As tourists only reside in those destinations for a short period of time, they are likely to dump waste on beaches or disfigure the surface of caves.

In conclusion, an increasing number of countries are investing in tourism because of its financial benefits and improving cultural diversity. Personally, this trend may cause converse effects on the environment as well as the locals’ lives
