Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment; only governments and large companies can make a difference. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In this day and age, environmental problems are the topic of debate. Not only does this cause adverse effects on the world, but it is also detrimental for the health of people. It is said that only governments and big organizations can address the problem. I completely disagree with the statement above as each person’s efforts are crucial.

On the one hand, governments and big companies play a pivotal role in dealing with environmental issues. In the first instance, companies can manufacture environmentally-products. Instead of focus only on financial benefits, they can produce goods that are not harmful for the environment. As a result, chemicals can waste can greatly be eradicated while they can boost their sales by advertising environmentally-friendly products images. Moreover, the governments also play an indispensable role due to their power. For example, if there is a policy exclusively imposed to improve the environment, a great amount of money can be allocated for planting trees or solving pollution.

On the other hand, while the impacts of governments and companies are significant, the role of each individual should not be overlooked. First, they can protect the environment through their daily activities. Many simple activities such as switching off lights when unnecessary or stop using plastic bags can be meaningful for the world. Some find it does not worth bothering but with such actions, they are ameliorating the environment. Moreover, citizens can use public transport to improve the world. As motor engine is one of the main problem causing air pollution as well as exploiting natural resources, the reduction in private cars and motors can greatly better the environment.

In conclusion, while it is true that the role of governments and companies are essential in terms of producing environmentally-friendly products and investing money on the environment, an individual can also participate in through changing their daily habits and transportation.
