It is generally believed that some people are born with certain talents, for instance for sport or music, and others are not. However, it is sometimes claimed that any child can be taught to become a good sports person or musician. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

People have different views about whether natural abilities or hard work make a person become successful. While I think that innate talent may accelerate people’s acquisition of certain skills, I believe that deliberate training is the decisive factor in achieving excellence.

On the one hand, it is reasonable to say that some people are born with special talents, and this advantage can facilitate their learning process and enhance their performance. Raw talent is commonly found in some fields, such as sport, music, and the arts. In fact, some children have a passion for music at an early age and have a better musical sense than others. These children are more likely to follow their passion and reach the top of their fields when growing up than those without any potential or interest in music. For instance, Mozart, who is acclaimed as the greatest musical genius of all time, was able to write his first musical pieces at the age of five. He is undoubtedly a practical example of those with predestined greatness.

On the other hand, I suppose that a person’s ultimate success in any area is mainly the result of hard work and perseverance. Natural abilities are just a starting point, and they can fade over time without rigorous training. An enormous investment of time and effort to learn and practice may help a person with no or little aptitude for a certain skill become proficient at it. Take disabled athletes in the Olympics as examples. Being born with disabilities means that they have fewer advantages in sport than strong people. However, many of them perform at their peak and become the greatest athletes in the world thanks to their tremendous effort and practice.

In conclusion, although innate talent exists, people have to devote themselves to continuous training and hard work to be truly great at a particular skill. (313 words)
