In the digital age, the role of printed newspapers as the most effective way to receive information has sparked considerable controversy. While many people still advocate this statement, others believe that they can get updated better through other media platforms. In this essay, I’m going to weigh up the pros and cons of both opinions, then showing my perspective.

To begin with, there’s no room for doubt that newspapers still hold the most vital position among individuals even though we are living in the globalized world. Firstly, old age people still like to read the newspaper as early years. Since they were first introduced to the public, most senior citizens have developed a habit of reading printed newspapers and they don’t want to break their habit. Moreover, newspapers are always considered to be more trustworthy when compared to any other sources of data. Most newspapers’ content is guaranteed because it is written by professional journalists and heavily checked, edited, and censored before being published. Therefore, people can be protected from misleading information, which is rife on the Internet.

On the other hand, social media is claimed to be the fastest-growing in popularity, especially among youngsters due to its convenience. Many types of media such as TV, news site, and news app are prevailing over the conventional newspaper in terms of updatability. With the presence of the Internet around almost every corner of the world, people with portable devices such as smartphones can get aware of what is happening around the world in a matter of minutes. Furthermore, social media unfold the possibility to upload videos and voice records, which can help people understand the news more clearly. To take an example, fans of football can watch or download any games whenever they want via the internet.

In conclusion, both media have their advantages and disadvantages. However, in my opinion, I still prefer to use social media to learn news due to its various choices and accessibility.
