It has been common in some countries that old people live in retirement houses. In some other countries, it is not acceptable for children to let their old parents live in such places.

Present-day adults are commonly flooded with their hectic schedule that they cannot spare enough time and care for aged parents; hence, this leads to two options which are retirement houses and home care. From my perspective, children have a responsibility for taking care of parents, and it will be much better if we let old parents stay at home.

In most developed nations, it is evident that the elderly spend the rest of their life staying in retirement houses. This can be clarified by the fact that the outside stressful work circulates the mature children, accounting for the majority of their concentration. In fact, in most of the Western countries, grown-up children live separately from parents and get a promising job in international corporations; hence, their lack of care for parents is discernible. Besides, old parents may find it more fascinating in retirement houses as there are a number of like-minded people who can be sympathetic to each other. Obviously, it is reported that the elderly living with same age missionaries may experience a longer life expectancy.

Another approach is letting old parents stay at home and I am totally prone to this notion. First, I believe that leaving parents in a strange destination is such a risky action as there is no assurance about the living condition or caring regime. To be worse, hundreds of retirement houses have been severely punished for having boasted their true caring quality but treated the elderly barbarically. In addition, as an Asian child, I am strongly convinced that it is our obligatory responsibility for carefully keeping an eye on parents when they get older, which has been considered a noted feature of our tradition. To be specific, in Vietnam, radically nurturing parents is one of the ways to express our affection and grateful attitude towards the senior; conversely, children will even be negatively criticized if they let their parents go to nursery houses. Parents can also enjoy themselves by looking after grandchildren, taking part in physical classes or building a neat relationship with neighbors.

In summary, even though aged parents can benefit from entering the retirement houses, there are still a tremendous number of hidden risks beneath this form. Thus, I think that it will be much better if we let them stay at home and enjoy the rest of their life as the advantages outweigh the drawbacks.
