TOEFL iBT: Independent Writing:

Task: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Only people who earn a lot of money are successful. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Without a doubt, money in this modern life is significant for one’s life. Although it is widely believed that only wealthy people or in other words, people having a lot of money are ones who succeed in their life, I believe that people can be successful in many other ways such as being happy, achieving their goal and the ability to do what they want to do.

Firstly, people who are happy with their life are also successful. Happiness is an important status that makes one’s life easier or more meaningful. For example, you can feel happy when you pass an important exam or when you have enough money to buy a smartphone or a car. In contrast, a wealthy person but usually be sick is not a successful person because he is not happy with his sickness.

Also, a successful person is the one who can achieve their goal or their dream. When I was a child, I have a dream of being an engineer so that I can invent more new machine to change the world. Now I am a student at a big university in my country, so I can be considered as a successful student because I has made my dream comes true.

Finally, people who are able to do what they want can be considered successful. A man want to become a football player but he is not strong enough to play a 90-minute football match and he cannot become a football player as he wishes. However, if a person is able to do in a major he want, he is a successful person.

In conclusion, with the aforementioned reasons, I believe that people who have a lot of money is not the only one who succeed in modern life and there are also many ways to succeed.
