Many people wonder if going to classes should be mandatory or optional for students. While many hold the view that students attend their class only when they want to, I firmly believe that students should be required to attend classes because of the following reasons.
Firstly, going to classes, students can meet their classmates, which is a good opportunity for them to discuss topics and matters relevant to the subject they are studying. By exchanging views with each other, not only students will reinforce their knowledge on the subject, they will also improve their critical thinking. When I was in the first year of college, I really enjoyed going to the Physics class where I constantly discussed the material with my friends. As a result, I understood the subject more clearly and ended up getting an A.
Secondly, leaners will avoid missing important information and knowledge of the subject when they choose to present at classes. As we all know, there are a lot of things books do not cover. For example, books may have the definition of a term but may not explain the origin or how to remember it. On the other hand, teachers will cover almost everything their students need and make sure they understand the information. This is the case in my Math class. I find the textbook really abstruse with all of the axioms and formal proofs, if I hadn’t attended the class to have my professor explained them for me, I wouldn’t have been able to understand them all just by reading.
Another reason students should be required to attend classes is that they will focus more on studying in classes. In classes, students are forced to pay attention to the subjects from the beginning to the end of the class. This means that students have to focus on learning in a long period of time, which would help to improve their learning quality.
In conclusion, going to classes should be the requirement because classes are the best place for students to learn. Students can discuss the subject with their classmates there. Moreover, attending classes will help students to concentrate on learning and avoid missing information that is not included in books.
