History is the most realistic story written by our ancestors, with some events of it even shape the world that we know about today. However, many begin to believe that the lessons of the old world are no longer relevant to our modern life. This, in my opinion, is not how history should be considered, especially when many of its stories can still provide us with valuable knowledge about wars and illness.
First, history taught us how formidable war can be. Although in the modern world, more people have died because of diseases and famine every year than the second World War, the number of casualties and damages of it was devastating back in the 1900s. For example, the Nazis, 80 years ago, almost brought the entire population of Jewish to extinction. In addition, they also brought teenagers into the battlefield and committed many war crimes that had affected the minds of many young people.
Second, learning from the past can help nations to prevent future diseases from bringing down the human race. History has taught us that many deadly pandemics can and could have been easily eradicated with proper sanitary and healthcare. For instance, the Black Plague, which had killed a large proportion of the population, could have been stopped much sooner if the people had cared about their hygiene. This is the lesson that we can learn and has been applying for many years.
In conclusion, the lessons from the past must never be forgotten, especially when many of them still remain an important part of our lives.
