I was a born engineer who chose to open toys rather than playing with them and a businessman bartering old toys with new ones and managing toys from others. I did my schooling from Army School and as I grew I got motivated for service towards nation. After XII I had two choices either engineering or Army, I got selected at both places. There is no denying the fact that everyone serves the nation either passively or actively but I chose to do it actively. With the technical inclination at the back of mind I joined the service corps of Army (EME) and fulfilled dreams. I am proud to say that I am the pioneer generation Army officer in my entire family.
My nine years of service has shaped my overall personality with the utmost leadership, general management, operation management, strategic planning, human resource, interpersonal, team spirit and administration skills, and my engineering degree has provided a strong base to my technical and analytical skills. I got the opportunity to lead from front and lead by setting examples in the rarest of the situations, and I did it successfully. The challenges which my profession portrays excite me and have enhanced my analytical and lateral thinking ability. My most substantial achievement was leading 200 technicians and establishing a full-fledged repair and maintenance workshop in the exercise area of Rajasthan to support a force of 4000 personnel and that to within four years of service. My work was appreciated by my commanders. Fortune favored and I was able to serve the poor as a member of Saral Seva Samiti started by my family. The NGO educates poor people and finances the wedding of couple of girls each year. I am an active volunteer for social service and have organized many medical camps in the remotest areas. Within the gamut of Army posting in Kashmir I held various meetings with the youth and motivated them for focusing on amelioration. These on job experiences have nurtured the person I am today.
Serving the nation is a noble profession and I never wanted to quit Army. If given a choice of stability I would love to pursue my career in armed forces. My profession will never allow me to stay at choice stations and at the same time I may and will get posted to the remotest field area. Due to unavoidable family commitments, which as a son and as a husband I can’t ignore, I have decided to move on. Working in the corporate field after Army will be a challenging task as there is a wide gap between the two. I am ready for the kill but would step only when prepared. Earning an MBA will bridge the gap, broaden my thought process, and help me in applying my unique experiences in the corporate world In the next five years, I see myself working for a company providing defense solutions, and in the long run I see myself leading a company specifically targeting the requirements of the Indian Army. I can’t achieve my goals until and unless I understand the corporate world which seems tangent at this point. The IIMB EPGP program is a perfect blend of core and electives and with the class profile of seven to fifteen years of experience with significant diversity not only will boost my skills but also will educate me about different cultures and raise my level of global awareness. The rigorous one year program with the best instructors and peers will definitely bring the best out of me.
