Short story

The phone call came in while Iris was at work, she looked at the screen and she saw it came from Yafit. she immediately answered she only heard crying Yafit tried to talk but she couldn’t Iris tried to come her down “Yafit is everything ok?” “No” she answered they can’t find Shlomy. she felt her body get tensed “What do you mean?” she asked “Shlomy called me about an hour ago he told me that he doesn’t feel good he just came out of training he said it was good one but he feels weak and he hardly breath” then I couldn’t hear him anymore I tried to call back but there was no answer. I have sent an ambulance to his work place but they can’t find him. Iris got panicked and shouted “it can’t be, it can’t be they must find him tell them to look and search his car “ok let me make MADA another phone call” Yafit hang up and called MADA and gave them information on Shlomy’s car . 15 minutes had passed by when MADA paramedic called back and reported that they have found him in his car.it looked that eternity had passed by. Yafit was relieved until she heard him saying that they found him Unconscious and had to do CPR. They need to take him to “BARZILAY HOSPITAL” they are on the way. Iris called Yafit asking what’s going on Yafit told her what have happen with Shlomy and the Ambulance is on his way to the Hospital. There was no time to think she rushed out Jacky her husband came to peek her; he couldn’t let her drive in her position. She cried and screamed GOD why him?!! It was another crisis she had to handle, she remembered how it felt, the nervousness the fear of what will be? It threw her back to a memory more a trauma memory when she got a call from the hospital, the doctor asked her to come to the hospital her father had a heart attack Iris and Shlomy rushed there her father couldn’t make it he had died that day. they left alone in the world. she couldn’t imagine her life without her brother. It seems to be very long drive but they finally made it. she walked into emergency room and looked for her brother, she found him lying on the bed the doctor was writing on his log, Shlomy looked unconscious she immediately asked the doctor to explain her his condition, and if he is going to make it? she start tearing up it was overwhelming, how can it be? Shlomy always keeps himself to be healthy, he always trains his passion is football. The doctor tells her that Shlomy had a stroke, oxygen didn’t get to his brain they still need to have several test before he will give a full answer to her. She has no choice but to wait, she talks to Shlomy tells him she is now near him she is going to take care of him, she caresses him. she wishes to hear good news from the doctor. She escorts him she doesn’t want to leave him alone. jack hugs her close to his heart he whispers to her that he is here for her and that he loves her. The only thing she feels that the sky falls down on her, how could these happen Shlomy was anxious not to reach the age 48, his dad didn’t make at, he died. When he reached 48 Shlomy made a big party he was relieved. now iris thought two years after it all fall apart her beloved brother had a stroke his condition is pretty bad and all she wants is her brother back. She sees Yafit they look at each other say no word and all they do is hugging each other. Iris tells Yafit that the doctors runs more test the situation right now is not well, they need to be patient and wait. Iris burst into tears also Shlomy’s girlfriend yafit. this a nightmare it can’t really happen how can it be? Shlomy loves his life, always on a good shape few hours ago he was talking to Yafit they don’t hear anything around them they have start mourning on Shlomy it’s impossible to mourn on someone who still alive, deep down they know he is not coming back he is there somewhere but not the way they wish he was. Iris decide to stay overnight in the hospital she wants to watch him he needs her.

She almost fell asleep when a call from Yoram her co-worker came in, he was worried about her and her brother. He promised to come to visit the next day. The next day he came he couldn’t see her in pain he promised her that he will be there for her no matter what. The days became weeks and weeks into months, the whole situation had brought them closer. Iris felt that in a way her husband stepped back, he didn’t visit frequently the way he did in the beginning, he had to take care of the kids at home while Iris spent her time in the Hospital. Yoram in a way stepped forward and came visiting as long as he could. One night she broke into tears he held her he was trying to encourage her and then he kissed her, he didn’t know what had happened Iris kissed him back. It was sweet-bitter kiss. Then he kissed her in her forehead and said he have to go back home. While driving home Iris text Yoram “we need to talk”.

The next day Yoram came to visit, he waited until him and Iris were alone in the room. He told her that he couldn’t sleep well yesterday night, and he realized that he cares for her, he sees how she struggles and those are hard times for her and her family, he sees her pain. How she hopes that the doctors are wrong and hoping her brother will wake up. And he also realized that is in love with her. He wants her, he desires her. He also sees the distancing between her and her husband. She deserves better. He pulled her over near him and hugged her. His words spelled her she felt lost the last few months taking care for Shlomy her routine was disturbed with this terrible accident. She comes every day to the Hospital she talks to him, she puts music that he loves she wants him to know that she is there for him. He is the last family member that exist. The last month or two her husband paid a visit here and there. She needed comfort and Yoram was there, offering her comfort and warmth. He Ignited something in her soul. She kissed him lightly on his lips he wanted her, he kissed her back deeply. She was confused, she thought to herself, how can she loves two men at the same time? She told him that she has feelings for him and she feels confused and safe at the same time. She needs more time to digest the situation, her feelings. She needs time. He agreed they both need time.

On her way home driving back she couldn’t not think about Yoram, she finds him very attractive, smart, funny someone that you feel connect to, they had many conversations how they see life and how life can be fragile in a heartbeat. She felt how his feelings are deep and sincere and how he cares about her and her brother.

Despite of what happen and the knowledge that her brother is the only family member that she has, she knew she wasn’t alone that she is alive, a living person like everybody else in spite of the personal tragedies that happened losing her parents, she should celebrate life, to wake up every morning and say thank you! I’m alive I can breathe it’s a new beginning to every day. She loves her life she loves her family and her husband. Every day that she wakes up she choose Jacky over and over again. Life isn’t in two shades there are many shades. Jacky is a wonderful father and husband; she knew deep down that the only reason he didn’t join her to see Shlomy was that he had to be present at home. To be there for the needs of his children. There was no one around to count on watching the kids. She wants gather her little tribe and travel somewhere. It’s time to be present in your own life she thought.
