In this thesis, an efficient program based on block methods is presented for solving first and higher order initial value problems (IVPs) of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). These proposed block methods are derived based on numerical integration method and using interpolation approach which are similarly as Adams type methods. These developed block methods solve first and higher order ODEs problem directly in a single program using variable step size strategy. In order to gain an efficient and reliable numerical approximations, these developed block methods are implemented in the predictor corrector mode with simple iteration technique. Furthermore, these developed block methods compute several numerical solutions simultaneously and the number of solutions to be computed depends on the feature of the block methods. The coefficients of these developed block methods formulae are stored in the code in order to avoid the tedious and repetitive computation of the integration coefficients.
The stability properties of these developed block methods are investigated and the local truncation error of the proposed schemes are studied. Several examples of IVPs of ODEs are taken into account to emphasize the main features of the proposed methods and the results obtained show that the program manages to produce good results for solving first and higher order ODEs as the methods achieved the desired accuracy.
