Letter Writing

Please check my motivation letter :)))

I need to write a motivation letter for my medical clerkship in Spain on a surgery ward. Please help me to check it, I would be grateful. Thanks!

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing you to state my interest in a one-month clinical clerkship at your hospital, preferably in the surgery ward. I am a fourth year medical student at the Medical University of Gdansk with a solid academic background, strong research and practical skills, and a genuine interest in working within health care system in Spain.

After graduation from high school I started studying in the Medical University of Gdansk in October 2008. During the pre-clinical part of my studies, I was trained in the basic medical sciences, for instance histology, medical chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, and anatomy. After having effectively passed all the preclinical medical exams, I continued with the clinical part of my studies, which includes an extensive range of courses and clinical training in approximately all medical fields. For my two clinical years, I have effectively completed courses in microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, pathology, surgery, dermatology, radiology, emergency medicine, neurology, pediatrics, internal medicine and even more.

Following my courses I also did a two-weeks clerkship in neonatology at the Hospital in Torun (2011), general internal medicine (2011), one month emergency medicine and general practice (2010) and nursery (2009) at the Hospital in Gizycko, which gave me impending into present medical practice. Those clerkships gave me not only with the chance to improve my medical acquaintance, but also to learn a variety of practical skills.

As a part of my interests, I am a member of a Pediatric Student Research Group in the Pediatric Clinic of Hematology, Oncology and Hematology MUG since 2010 year. I also took part in the 19th International Students' Scientific Conference for Students and Young Doctors giving a speech “Catheter- your friend or enemy?” (13th May 2011).

I am also interested in a volunteering job, what is strictly connected with my future profession. As a student of medicine I cannot image myself without huge willingness of helping people. I do my best to be professional, gain as much experience as I can but also there is something special - hope to help people save what is the most important. I mean their lives and health. Being the Secretary of Department Gdansk in IFMSA-Poland gave me all of it. This confirms that I am very helpful, warm, creative and well-organised young woman. I’m easy going and have no problem to work under the stress. Sometimes I work too hard, I’m also too pedantic when I feel responsible for the task.

My interest in serving as a surgical trainee is a result of several factors. First, surgery is, without a doubt, my preferred branch, since I find it the most dynamic medical field. Second, doing clerkship on the surgery ward is essential for me to pass next year at my University and it is obligatory. Lastly, this clerkship offers me the opportunity to get closely in touch with patients and improve my theoretical, but specially, practical medical knowledge. As a result, I would welcome the chance to learn more about the practices and procedures of the Spain health care system in preparation for my future career.
Thank you very much for your time and considering my application. I am looking forward to your positive response.
Yours Faithfully,
