Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Persib. With this letter, I would kindly like to introduce my candidacy for the XYZ scholarship for the ABC Programme.
I have studied the materials science and engineering at the Institut PQR from 1997 to 2002 and acquired a bachelor of engineering. During my studies, I was imparted plenty of materials science and engineering knowledge, including materials technology and its applications, strength of materials, advanced materials, surface treatment, failure analysis and many subjects on metallurgy in the 3rd and 4th year. However, I was tremendously interested in researches related to smart materials and structures, that according to my knowledge is a new field in materials science and engineering and still give a great opportunity to explore. Hence, I have decided to join Universiti Mampretos as a researcher when they offer me to do researches on the application of smart materials and structures. My research activities are mainly making and characterizing electrorheological fluid and implementing the fluid in to the semi-active vehicle suspension system, developing a mathematical model that relates the properties of the fluid to the damping level of the suspension system and build a simulation of the system using computer program. During the time doing this research, I trained to be a prospective scientist who is familiar with doing research and working in laboratory and able to work individually as well as team work. However, through work in this research, I came to recognize that my knowledge is still limited in many areas and I did know that I can study more than electrorheological fluids. Therefore, I plant to further and advanced study of materials science and engineering to learn more and to put my knowledge into a higher standard, so that I could be a well-equipped and professional researcher and lecturer.
After a thorough research of the ABC programme, I became aware that my knowledge of materials science and engineering will be improved if I have an opportunity to enroll in this master course. This top-level programme will provide me plenty of knowledge in the field of materials science and engineering which can be very useful for my future carrier. In addition, working and attending this master course, I can meet different kind of people and culture that will give me different points of view, thus, contributing for my flexibility and creativity, besides the cultural and language gains. Moreover, I have come to recognize that I can establish good working relationship with other scholars from all over the world joining the programme, which can give a benefit to me and my country.
As a motivated and ambitious young man, I will do my best to accomplish all tasks given in the ABC programme. Furthermore, with my experience as a researcher and working with foreigner in the research group, I would be able to adapt to a constantly changing work environment, and get along with individuals of different culture backgrounds. In addition, with my good command in writing and speaking English, I will not have to come up against any difficulties in studying scientific subject taught in English.
I understand that admission to the XYZ Scholarship is competitive, but I also understand that I’m qualified, eager and prepared to meet all of the challenges I will be presented with. I, therefore, would be most grateful if you could give my application form in your most favorable consideration.
