Hi, I'm Kaitlyn. I'm writing a research paper and I need someone to proofread my Intro:
Effects of The Revolutionary War on Great Britain
"Peace of mind! I have no peace of mind. I have had no peace of mind since we lost America. Forests, old as the world itself, plains, strange delicate flowers, immense solitudes. And all nature new to art. All ours. Mine. Gone. A paradise lost."King George William Frederick III (ruled from 1760-1801)
America is, at last, free, no longer under the rule of Great Britain. But, as usual, with freedom comes a price to pay. Great Britain had been in debt from the French and Indian War and the Seven Years War after spending a huge amount of money to support troops and provide materiel (arms, ammunition, and equipment in general). The king, George III, placed taxes on tea and sugar and mandate stamps for all written documents in the thirteen colonies to help pay off expenses. Consequently, the oppressed colonist rebelled on their government with an event well known as The Boston Tea Party, ruining 340 chests of tea. The country of Britain grew indignant and King George III added more fines on paper, glass, lead, and paint. If they refused to pay up, British troops tarred and feathered the convicted Americans. He also required that the thirteen colonies provide his soldiers with food and shelter. Eventually, the bickering turned into blood splatter in April of 1775 with the Battle of Lexington and Concord, the first of 238 battles of the Revolutionary War. The war had an overall death-toll of around 217,000 men and women. Both sides were losing too many lives and grew weaker and weaker, leading to the two parties signing the Treaty of Paris, which pronounced America as an independent country. That was the end of it… well, for America. Britain continued to have both negative and positive aftereffects, including drowning in debt, losing the allegiance of Ireland, facing a constitutional reform, restoration of trade, and the loss and gain of land
