Letter Writing

Please check my informal letter (thanks in advance)

Topic : You borrowed an important textbook from a classmate last term. You now realize your classmate had returned home overseas and you still have the book. Write a letter to to him / her. In your letter:
  • apologize for the mistake
  • find out how important the book is to him / her
  • say what you will do

==

Dear John,

I am writing this letter to apologize for my neglect. Actually I forgot to return your textbook which I borrowed from you last month. I did not know when you intended to go to your home overseas. As you know, I promised to return back this book to you as soon as possible. I am truly sorry about that.

As far as I remembered, this book was one of your most favorite books and you always carried this book in your bag. You did not ask me to return this book to you before you left school. Please let me know if you still need this book or not.

I could send this book to your country by express post. If you agree with this idea, send me your home's postal address to my e-mail address. Please let me know what I can do for you.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

All the best,

Peter.

Your letter is fine. The only comment I have is that you did not ask John how important this book was to him. You did ask if he still needed it, but that is not exactly the same question.
