Essay & Composition Writing

Please check my Ielts writing task 2 about illiteracy. Thank you very much!

Topic: Nowadays, many people cannot read or write. What problems does this

cause? What measures can governments take to solve these problems?

Up to this modern day and age, illiteracy remains a challenging topic. This causes a number of issues, and we must take action to address it.

The high rate of people who are unable to read and write has several detrimental implications. First, illiterates are more prone to struggle with several routine activities. For example, as a customer, they do not understand what is written in the coverage of a product, so that they cannot find out which commodity they need and how to use it. As a result, they become burdens people around them have to shoulder since they require a person to accompany them whenever going shopping for necessities. Second, a country with a high proportion of illiteracy will face economic growth obstacles. Trading or running a business, for example, can not operate without literacy. Consequently, a high percentage of illiterates not getting involved in economic activity would lead to a labor shortage and wreck the national economy.

However, some steps can be taken to deal with those problems. The authority had better allocate resources and budgets to provide basic literacy classes without tuition. As a result, those who can not afford to attend compulsory educational institutions can get access to education. In addition, schools and local businesses should create some clubs or organizations including volunteers eager to spend time teaching illiterate people. Instead of receiving salaries, they would be awarded for their dedication to the society. The rate of illiteracy would decline with society's effort.

In conclusion, although illiteracy is a critical challenge, there are strategies that can be implemented to eradicate it.
