The table & charts below give information on the police budget for 2017 & 2018 in one area of Britain. The table show where the money came from and the charts show how it was distributed.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

My essay :

The table shows police budget sources in one area of Britain for 2017 & 2018. There are 3 major sources, respectively : National Government, Local Taxes & Other sources (eg grants). The Total row at bottom computes the sum of them. Two charts indicate how the money was distributed, including Salaries (officers and staff), Technology investment and Buildings & Transport expenses.

Overall, the amount of money derived from each of the three resources increased over a year. As a result, the total in 2018 was higher than in 2017. The distribution of police budget also got some minor changes between 2 years.

In detail, from 2017 to 2018, Local Taxes source had a significant growth with 11m, followed by National Government source with about 2m. Other sources became the lowest growth source, only contributed a half of 1m. Therefore, the total rose over 14m in one year. Along with increasing budget, using it for Buildings & transport section still was the same when compared with 2017. However, there is an obvious change between the other two. If in 2017, the rate for Salaries accounted for 75% while the rate in Technology was only 8%. In the following year, Salaries section drops to 69% and Technology investment went up to 14%. Obviously, the authority reduced by 6% budget for Salaries to add it in Technology section.
