The diagrams depict the formation of sand dunes over the sandy ground.

Overall, a sand dune is a landform composed of wind-driven sand and formed due to the earth’s depositional forces.

In detail, sand particles are transported by the wind over the dry ground which has the capacity to rebound objects strongly. Hence, the sand moves in a bouncy fashion a little over the ground.

As the wind continues blowing, it carries sand particles to a wet, sticky area. There, any particles, having reached the ground, often adhere to it. When more sand particles are adhesive to the ground, a structure resembling a mound is formed – it is a sand deposit.

As it is made of sand-sized particles, the sand dune is not as rigorous as other structures which have the ability to deflect the wind. As a result, due to wind forces, sand particles from a dune are carried to another location to form other similar structures.
