Question

The bar chart depicts the information of local residents and foreign visitors going to a particular museum, per year, between 2001 and 2011.

From a brief inspection, domestic visits declined considerably from 2001 to 2004, after which was followed by a period of 8 years of increase, whereas international influx of visitors rose sharply.

In details, the initial number of local visitors was 100 thousands. However, the number decreased nearly fivefold between 2001 and 2004. After a period of sharp dip, it saw a modest growth until 2008, with over 50 thousands. It experienced a slight lull in 3 years subsequently.

With respect to international visits, despite its low initial statistics- only one tenth that of local visits, it continued a stable climb with slight acceleration, with roughly 35 thousands in 2005, over 3 times as much as its starting number. The number jumped further to about 70 thousands in 2007, before skyrocketing to approximately 85 thousands in the next year. After that, it observed a mild decline in 2009, and it went on to fall by 21 percent respectively in 2001.

The bar chart compares the number (in thousands) of local versus international visitors to a museum each year between 2001 and 2011.

Some points to make:

In 2001, 90% of the visitors were local.
The number of local visitors reached the lowest value in 2004, but it was still greater than the number of international visitors. In this year, the museum had the least number of visitors, only 40 thousand.

The number of local visitors exceeded that of international visitors from 2001 through 2004; after that the situation reversed.

The year of greatest museum attendance was 2008, about 132 thousand. About 35% of these were locals.

There was a peak in the number of international visitors in 2008, at about 82 thousand. That was more than eight times the number in 2001.

The number of local visitors in 2001, the first year shown, was 100 thousand. However, that decreased nearly five-fold between 2001 and 2004, when it reached a low point of about 22 thousand. It went up again until 2008 when it leveled off and remained relatively constant over the next three years, at between 43 and 45 thousand.

It continued to increase at a higher rate, about 15 thousand per year until 2008, reaching its highest value at approximately 85 thousand. After that, it started a decline at about eight thousand per year until 2011, ending up at just over 60 thousand. Despite the decrease, it was still six times higher at the end of the period than at the beginning.
