a.2. I prefer dogs over cats
a.3. I prefer dogs rather than cats

b) - Prefer + ing

b.1. I prefer reading a book to playing football
b.2. I prefer reading a book rather than playing football

c) - Prefer + to + inf.

c.1 I prefer to take the train rather than drive to work
c.2 I prefer to take the train to drive to work. (I'm not sure)

2. WOULD PREFER +

2.1. I'd prefer to go by train than to go by bus.
2.2. I'd prefer to go by train rather than to go by bus.
