It is universally believed that entering university education is the privilege of all citizens regardless of their financial resources. Therefore, providing a free tuition in universities needs to be performed by goverment as a measure extending this right. While this is valid to a certain extent, I am of the opinion that there exists superior approach to create good conditions for the poor who want to attend higher education.
It is understandable why some people advocate the idea of publicly-funded higher education. The chief rationale is that education has remarkably molded one’s personality. The implication of this is that the uneducated tend to commit serious crimes over those who have a decent education. Vietnam perfectly exemplifies this situation. Many remote regions where people lack of formal education have a significantly soar in sexual abuse, domestic violence… Therefore, it make sense to publicly funded university education for everyone to considerably culb crime in nationwide.
However, I believe this policy may exert an adverse effect on state budget. Because the excessive allocation of funds to education results in reducing the payment for other social welfare like health care. It is not an exaggeration to say that poor medicine is often considered as a chief culprit of pandemic, infectious diseases. India, for instance, is infamous for its neglects of health service which leads to regretable fatalities.
Therefore, from my perspective, instead of providing a free tuition, government should run some form of student loan program which offer the lowest interest rates and the most accommodating repayment plans. It will be a motivation to student endeavor to study harder. That attempt plays a paramount role to their future job which helps them to make a lucrative income to pay back.
In conclusion, there are some superior approachs to make a college education more accessible to students from all walks of life.
