WRITING TASK 2

In many countries, very few young people read newspapers or follow the news on TV. What do you think are the causes of this? What solutions can you suggest?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Task

It is the fact that the number of young people who do not read newspaper and follow the news on TV are increasing. I think there are two reasons for that: one is the development of new technology such as smart phone and another is preference of today’s youngsters.

Firstly, the emergence of Internet and smart phones makes it more convenient for young people to get updated news. In addition, online news contains a wide range of information. For example, instead of turning over every page in newspapers, people can easily find their missing news only by typing keyword. Moreover, the speed for receiving results is really fast and they can save time to catch the information.

Secondly, young people tend to pay attention to their private things rather than public things. It is because they think that public matters do not affect their daily lives. Furthermore, they are influenced too much by surrounding people, especially their friends. From my experiences, some of my friends indulge in getting information from SNS, meanwhile others do not. This results in the imbalance of common information among us, so we can not discuss about public matters together.

To solve this type of problem, parents and teachers need to care for the habits of their children and students. Besides, media should encourage young people to spend their time wisely and keep balance between digital and paper devices.

In conclusion, I suppose that few young people are interested in reading news and watching news channels nowadays, so keeping balance between using digital and paper-based devices is very crucial for them.
