Topic: Some people believe that one world government would be better than national government. Do you think the benefits of this system outweigh the disadvantages?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although opinions are divided as to whether having one universal government is better than national one or not, it is my firm conviction that a single world government would bring more disadvantages than benefits.
On the one hand, the universal government undoubtedly has a good impact on some extents. First of all, having solely one government would solve the migration problem. In recent times, it it believed that more and more people living in developing countries have been moving to developed ones, putting an added pressure on population and employment of the nation they move to. Because of this, some developed nations prevent them from migrating, leading to huge payment for human traffickers or even an increase in loss of human life. By having a united government, there would be a free movement of labour and the migration problem is solved. Furthermore, the world government could ensure the a fair response to crisis. For example, in this covid-19 pandemic, a large number of developing countries, especially Asian, are not able to produce vaccine, so they have to wait for the help of developed ones, resulting in widespread infection or increasing death case. If there is only one government, each individual would have an equal opportunity to have a dose instead of waiting for a long time or locking down the country.
On the other hand, having one world government has some social disadvantages. Since having no opposite party or government to observe the policy, there would lead to inevitable consequences such as corruption. Moreover, there are countless cultures and lifestyles among billions of people. This means that policies to address the needs and demands of each parts of the world seem to be ineffective. Take my country, Vietnam, as an example, there are hundreds of cultures and peoples. Since people living in different parts of the country have different needs, Vietnamese government has difficulties in addressing and satisfying the desires of people among the countries, together with ensuring the solidarity of the nation. Therefore, those would be insoluble problems for the one world government to deal with.
In conclusion, albeit with global benefits, I believe the disadvantages of having one universal government with respect to society and culture more than make up for any advantages.
