Topic: In recent years, it has become harder for new graduates to find employment, and many young people struggle to join the workforce. Why do you think this situation has occurred? What can you suggest to solve this problem?
Task:
Recently, it seems to be more difficult for the graduates to find jobs and struggle to take part in the labor force. In my opinion, there are two reasons for this, one is young people’s overconfidence and high expectations, another is their lack of general working skills.
First, young people are too confident about their ability and expect that their first jobs should be well – paid and professional one. Some of them are obsessed with fame and only concentrate on the famous companies, resulting in their disappointment when being rejected. Second, they do not realize their shortage of workplace skills such as interpersonal communication, critical thinking and organization. Besides, they do not know the workplaces are totally different from the schools where only academic knowledge is required and their low skills are one reason for being rejected. For instance, some of my friends, who graduated from university last year, are still at risk of being unemployed. In fact, they were talented students in schools and their academic results were excellent compared to others. That is why they always think that they deserve to have good jobs with high salary in spite of no experiences or working skills. Therefore, whenever they applied for new jobs, they were always rejected for their lack of experience and knowledge. Until now, meanwhile other friends get much experiences, they are still waiting for their daydream becoming true.
To solve this problem, new graduates should grasp any opportunities they have to build their skill sets. Furthermore, they should lower their expectations to understand their current situation. For example, becoming an assistant or general officer can be a good head start for them to be familiar with work ethic, practice their critical thinking and communication ability.
In conclusion, it is the fact that young people nowadays are struggling to find suitable jobs. However, getting job opportunities and lower expectations will be more beneficial for them to join the workforce.
