Topic: At some companies, the IT department saves the copy of all staff emails and monitors websites visited on the Internet. Do you agree or disagree that the companies should be permitted to do this? Provide reasons or examples to support your opinion.

The IT department plays an essential role in each company. They are sometimes allowed to save a copy of all staff emails and track the websites visitor. Disagreements on whether the companies should be permitted to perform actions mentioned above have become more and more viral. However, from my perspective, it is necessary for corporation to do this.

On the one hand, the responsibility of IT department to keep a copy of all staff emails and monitor websites visited makes the company’s information safe. This records are able to show details such as name of writer, receiver, the content of emails and location where they are sent. This helps reduce the ability to be attacked by viruses or leaked information. Companies would lose an extensive amount of money if their plans or projects are hacked and spread to competitors. Moreover, as emails usually contain important information such as contracts, personal accounts and project announcements, the records are the back up files if any of those lost because of technical issues.

On the other hand, supervisors can be aware of the productivity of workers. Through the records, they keep track of the employees’ activities, prevent them from accessing to social networks in office hours. This is a pressure on workers as they are supervised by the managers. Furthermore, it forces them to pay highly attention to complete the duties on time instead of using time wisely on entertaining purposes. Companies will be able to choose and give the appropriate salary to effective workers whose contributions helps to raise profit and reputation.

In conclusion, companies should be permitted to save the copy of all staff emails and monitor employees accesses on websites as this action do not only bring the safety to companies’ confidential information but also improve the productivity of workers.
