International travel is becoming cheaper, and countries are opening their doors to more and more tourists. Do the advantages of increased tourism outweigh its disadvantages?

There is no doubt that the increasing number of tourists opts to savor a holiday in a foreign country, and countries seek various ways to draw international visitors. Even though this trend could have several disadvantages, it probably brings more benefits than drawbacks to society.

On the one hand, the development of international tourism could have several detrimental effects on the environment and the lives of the locals. First, in order to attract more tourists, local authorities frequently develop more facilities and infrastructures around tourist attractions. For example, many resorts and hotels were constructed in Da Lat, which is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Vietnam, to serve both domestic and international travelers, which destroyed wildlife habitat here. Second, the increase in tourists, especially international travelers, leads to higher living costs for local people. This means that housing costs and food costs are often high around touristy places, putting great pressure on local residents, especially people living on the bread line.

On the other hand, the progression of smokeless industry is extremely beneficial to host countries in terms of economic development. From an economic perspective, the tourism industry is a critical source of income for many nations. When visitors flock to a country, they often spend money on a variety of services such as accommodation or entertainment, which generate substantial revenue for both local businesses and governments through taxation. From a social perspective, it is also a remedy for unemployment because it could provide new employment opportunities for locals. In fact, the influx of tourists will lead to a larger demand in occupations like hotel staff, tour guides, or chefs, which encourages business owners to hire more labor.

In conclusion, while I admit that there are several problems when a country tries to appeal to a greater number of international holidaymakers, I believe that its pros outweigh its cons.
