The Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 has brought immense challenges to students across the country, forcing schools to set up digital classes. Many people, however, believe this is a one-off opportunity for Vietnamese students who thrive in this hi-tech century.
As a student who is riding the tides of change, do you think online learning is more of a gift than an obstacle?
( this is not an IELTS exam so there is no word limit)
The attack of Covid-19 pandemic has terrorized one of the supposed pillars of traditional education, face-to-face interactions between teachers and students. During the subsequent waves of online migrations in the academic world, opinions have polarized as to whether this phenomenon poses threats or brings wonders to Vietnamese students. Personally, I opine that a blessing in disguise is what the current situation should be called.
To start with, the mass online exodus would pose a threat to Vietnamese education. Specifically, the abrupt digital barrages are what render the majority of experienced but elderly educators in Vietnam baffled and passive while endowing the youth with tremendous power to mischievously disrupt the lessons. This is reflected conspicuously through various news aired on media. As a matter of fact, most teachers’ grievances revolve around the children’s disruptive activities of turning off the mic and playing truancies, coupled with indecent interferences from outsiders. Consequently, not only does this erode the teaching spirits of educators, but it also strangles the academic achievements and morality developments of students. Therefore, to deride the obstacles generated by transitions to telelearning is hard to stomach.
However, the avalanche of technology can be a one-time opportunity for Vietnamese education. In fact, given the constant onslaught of Covid-19, alongside seemingly incessant lockdowns and social distancing, hardly can a single teacher, even with old ages, make excuses from the need to navigate themselves into the uncharted territory of digital devices. This means the transitions to online-educating constitute a trade-off for educators to diversify their lessons with a myriad of tweaks, utilities, and games to capture students’ attention as well as revitalizing classes’ ambiance. As a consequence, on return to normalcy, students and teachers would be far more gravitated towards learning with technology in class, which, in turn, contributes immensely to the digitization of education. In the long run, a country with a better technology-integrated education system is likely to fare better in the current and upcoming 4.0 century. Hence, it is imperative that Vietnamese education make the most of this golden opportunity to thrive.
In sum, from the aforementioned rationales, I concede the vehement siege Covid-19 is setting to the world of academy currently. However, it is vital for people not to surrender to the pandemic but to counterattack it with proper strategies.
