Topic: Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
With the rapid development of technology, information has become increasingly accessible. This has raised many disputes regarding whether or not information should be shared freely. For some people, transmitting information will bring many benefits while others hold a contrastive viewpoint. In this essay, I will discuss both opinions and express my own perspective.
There are many advantages of allowing people to get access to free information. Specifically, facts and data collected from the environmental research can raise people’s awareness to protect the environment. It means that human can gain a deeper insight to how the climate is changing, how the animal’s habitat is affected and etc, which is a great motivation for them to take steps. Furthermore, regarding business, lessons of the successful businessmen can help inspire the young generation and lead them to follow the right path. The valuable tips and priceless experiences shared among people are a useful method for them to learn from each other.
In contrast, allowing information to be shared freely can pose several threats to humankind. To be more specific, sharing valuable scientific discovery is likely to enable criminals to commit crimes such as producing weapons using the newly found chemical substance. The matter of copyright and creativity is also another drawback. For example, students can without difficulty copy a sample analysis on the internet and claim it as his own work, which will possibly lead to other serious consequences such as the increasing number of lazy students and the lack of creativity in the academic environment.
In a nutshell, from my own viewpoint, sharing information is necessary considering the abovementioned advantages. However, the shared information should be carefully chosen for the minimalisation of negative impacts.
