It is suggested that everyone should have a car, a TV, and fridge. Do the disadvantages of this development for society outweigh the disadvantages?

Many believe that everyone needs to possess several electronic equipment and private transportation. I think that the drawbacks do overshadow the benefits.

There are two reasons why people might own several technical products in the modern era. First of all, material possession can bring comfort to our daily life and fulfill people’s basic demands. To be specific, using cars is speedier and more comfortable rather than going on foot that leads the saving time and safety. Moreover, televisions seem to be an entertaining source for all members under the same roofs can enjoy with each other after hard working days. Besides, how would we preserve food for a long period without any refrigerator? Second, if everyone buys such previously costly items, they are about to become part and parcel and affordable items. In other words, the more consumers’ demand encourages the more the average price of these products is cut down.

Despite the advantages mentioned above, I believe that this trend has negative impacts on both individuals and the whole community. These days, people are more reliant on modern appliances such as TVs and radios, and computers. As a result, the users turn out to be cough potatoes being lack of physical exercise and might cause obesity and eye strain. Moreover, being tech-addicted, people will be isolated because they have no interaction with family and friends in real life, even they may be anti-social members. Overconsumption culture can lead to environmental pollution when consumers tempt to purchase unnecessary items to catch up trends. The more technical products are purchased, the more trash and waste are produced. What is more, our planet will be covered with thrown-away and second items as a global landfill

In conclusion, while I acknowledge the benefits of owning technical appliances, the downsides are more significant than the upsides because this trend takes a toll on our health and environment.
