In the future, nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

The rapid growth and expansion of the Internet associated with e-reading have raised a controversial question, whether nobody will buy printed newspapers or books in the future. In my opinion, the worst scenario when printed word become a thing of the past could happen.

Uncounted benefits that Internet-based reading provides could be the main reason why people have switched from printed newspapers to online news. First, e-reading is so available and commonplace. Smartphones and the Internet make accessing online news has been easier than ever before. In addition, the public now has hundreds of ways to get new information without buying newspapers such as podcasts, radios, television news, and so on. At the same time, e-books are extremely economical. There are thousands of websites that allow users to read books without payment. Although it is illegal, these websites still “survive” as the huge number of visitors.

As these mentioned above advantages, the number of people choosing printed newspapers and books has plummeted. Although online reading has been popular over a few decades, it is gradually dominant in readers' choices. Especially with the release of Kindle, e-books sales have skyrocketed. Furthermore, online reading is constantly innovating to catching up with printed books. E-book manufacturers are running thousands of campaigns, for example, stimulating innovations on mobile reading applications, or offering discounts to attract readers.
In conclusion, although it is a dismal scenario, I would argue that online reading will gradually surpass printed newspapers and books, and replace them in the near future
