Some companies sponsor sports as a way to advertise themselves. Some people think it is good while others think there are disadvantages. Discuss both views and give your opinion

Sports sponsorship is booming. Never before has more money put into marketing with athletes, sports teams or sporting events… People have different views about whether this kind of advertising is beneficial or not. In my point of view, I think the drawbacks are outweighed by the advantages.

On the one hand, when sports teams and players receive financial support from companies, they can concentrate on sports training instead of being distracted by financial worries. Moreover, they will be given free equipment which they can not afford otherwise. Meanwhile, sports sponsorship increases media exposure for a company and its brand. The more famous athletes and sports teams, the more popular they will achieve. Christina Ronaldo is one of the legendary footballers while Nike is a famous company specializing in sporting shoes and clothes. Nike has become the sponsor for Ronaldo that helps Nike compete with other companies and popularize both their brand and image over the world.

On the other hand, there are some disadvantages. Firstly, some companies advertise products that harmful to health. Take tobacco companies for example, those had been received much contentious when sponsoring sports, one of the problems that it can lead to youth initiation of tobacco use. Therefore, tobacco advertising through sports was banned in many countries. Secondly, when a company sponsors players, their brand will link to players’s reputation. If the players are unsuccessful or misbehaved, the image of the company will also have negative influences.

In conclusion, although some companies advertise themselves through sports sponsorship have some disadvantages, it seems to me the potential benefits are more significant than the possible drawbacks.
