Multi-cultural societies, in which there is a mixture of different ethnic peoples, bring more benefits than drawbacks to a country. To what extent do you agree or disagree? (CULTURE)

The notion that the pros of multicultural societies with a mixture of different ethnic people outweigh its cons has gained a lot of traction. From my perspective, I totally disagree with that idea due to arguments among people from various cultures and drawbacks of the government in unifying them.

Firstly, conflicts among different cultures are inevitable in multi-cultural societies. In other words, following their own lifestyles and social norms, groups of ethnic people may have arguments when their rules contradict other cultures. For example, VietNam has 54 ethnic groups and each of those have different lifestyles. While those in Kinh groups maintain that both boys and girls should be accessible for schools from a very young ages, their counterparts in Dao groups firmly believe that girls are unluckily under obligation to stay at home and learn to do housework. There are many people in Kinh groups who have tried to fight against Dao’s social norms to protect girls’ educational rights and hence, having arguments with Dao people.

Another must-mentioning reason is that it is difficult for the government to unite people from different ethnic groups in a country. Simply put, there seems to be more or less a barrier between 2 different ethnic groups of people following different lifestyles, which limit the way they build up a strong relationship with others. Take 2 ethnic groups in Vietnam as an example, the Muong and Kinh groups. People from those groups speak their own language, making it hard for them to communicate or share opinions with those from remaining groups, hence unabling them to have a tie friendship. It stands to reason that people in a country can not unite in necessary cases like in wars.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that multicultural societies hold more drawbacks than advantages owing to conflicts among people and the mental distance from different ethnic groups.
