There are many affects alcohol has on nutrition, in people of all ages. Each year more than 100,000 people die from alcohol related causes. According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug dependence more than 13 million Americans abuse alcohol. There are different types of alcohol dependency psychologically dependent and physically dependent. If you crave alcohol, or feel distresses without it you are said to be psychologically dependent, if your body changes when alcohol is stopped such as hot/cold flashes, tremor, or seizures you are physically dependent. Like this, if a person likes to drink alcohol too much, the person should get big problems. There are three major effects such as teenagers’ physical, handicapped babies, and diseases.
The first effect is that alcohol is really harmful for teenagers. Many young people find it tempting to drink alcohol by sneaking some with their friends at parties. They think this behavior is innocent and harmless. They think they won't look cool if they don't have any. Is this behavior really harmless though? In the , it is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to drink alcohol. Even though those over 21 can legally consume it doesn't make it less dangerous for them either. The Alcohol causes changes in a person's physical and emotional state. So, if a young person drinks alcohol every day, the young person’s physical and emotional state will be able to suffer serious damage from the alcohol.
The second effect that alcohol has is on pregnant women, this causes fetal alcohol syndrome, this cause low IQ, fine motor skills dysfunction, which causes weak grasp, poor hand-eye coordination, and hyperactivity in later childhood. For example, my friend who is an alcoholic wanted to get baby. But she could not make baby because she could not live without an alcohol. In a research paper, if a person is an alcoholic, the probability that the person will make a handicapped baby is 65% higher than other people who do not drink alcohol.
The last effect is diseases. Most people think that they can live without diseases. However, the diseases are always staying with them. For instance, if a person likes to drink alcohol everyday, the person will easily get some harmful disease more than other people who do not drink alcohol everyday. Other example, my father was passed away last year. He had never gotten any disease until he got a cancer. He believed he has very strong bogy while he was drinking alcohol. But, his thought was wrong. The alcohol had brought a cancer and then the cancer has brought death.
In conclusion, although alcohol may give you a feeling of elation and aroused senses due to a lessening of inhibitions during the early stages of alcohol intoxication, alcohol is a depressant. Furthermore, the alcohol brings three major harmful effects such as teenagers’ physical, handicapped babies, and diseases.
