In many countries, more and more people choose to buy imported food rather than food produced locally. Why people buy imported food? What could be done to encourage people to buy local food?

In many nations, an increasing number of people favor imported food over domestic food. There are a lot of reasons behind this tendency, and several feasible solutions could be adopted to improve the trend.

There are two main reasons why many people would rather consume imported food than food produced locally. One reason is that many different types of fruits and vegetables could not be grown in some countries due to various factors such as climate and land. As a result, many those who want to eat a variety of food have to buy imported food since many products are not available in their nations. For instance, many Vietnamese people like eating cherries, a type of fruit commonly grown in Western countries, imported from the US to satisfy the demand of Vietnamese people. Furthermore, some people think that the quality of international produce is much better than the quality of domestic production. For example, snacks imported from the US or Europe is usually more delicious than local products in favor, nutritional values. Therefore, more and more snacks are imported while local ones are slowly forgotten.

However, several measures could be proposed to encourage customers to choose domestic food. One solution would be for governments to invest money in the research and development of many new plants to diversify food sources. In Vietnam, for example, many types of special fruit such as red flesh dragon fruit or watermelon without seeds created by technology and science not only meet the demand of national customers but also export to many nations in the world. The second measure would be to improve the quality of products and to give buyers discounts or additional products regularly. This could pique buyers’ interest and afford national businesses the opportunity to sell an enormous number of domestic products for customers.

In conclusion, there are various causes of buying international food in lieu of food produced locally, and steps should be adopted to encourage purchasers to consume their national food more.
