Maintaining public libraries is a waste of money since computer technology can replace their functions. Do you agree or disagree?
Public spending on public libraries where computers can replace their functions is a somewhat highly controversial issue. I wholeheartedly believe that keeping public libraries open is vitally important despite computer advancements which can function as a library.
From an overall perspectives, there are two primary reasons why I believe that libraries should be kept open. Possibly the cogent reasons in favour this notion is that people can have a social talk while reading books and newspapers. This is because most books, magazines and newspapers are lighter than most computer and tablets, which enables people to hold books while chatting. A further point in favour of this concept is that libraries can be a social place where people could sharpen their social skills. A good illustration of this is that a library visitor should talk with quietness to avoid public disruption.
Despite computer advancements in which they can function as a library, there are two main disadvantages in respect of this aspect. Perhaps the most acute disadvantage of this concept is that particularly in rural areas the Internet is not highly reliable, which could in turn result in failed book downloading. This might inevitably lead to gross satisfaction, with some spending several hours to download even one book. A further serious disadvantage of this idea is that government might have to spend more money to educate the elderly how to use the Internet, and provide free computers for those who are in low incomes.
In conclusion, I totally agree with the nation that funding public library in the modern times is obviously relevant to the modern digital society.
