In recent years, the family structure has changed, as well as family roles. What types of changes are occurring? Do you think these changes are positive and negative?

It is believed this trend becomes increasingly common in a developed society and promote gender equality when the family structure has changed, as well as family roles.

An increasingly developed society leads to a change in family structure and family roles. Firstly, families which have three or four generations living under the same roof are replaced by nuclear families, of one person. Since it is financially independent, pursuit their dreams and privacy. Secondly, modern women have many opportunities to pursue their dreams and become financially independent, while the household and raising children will be shared by both husband and wife instead of doing those things is the only responsibility of the woman. As a result, conservative thoughts which prevented the woman from pursuing their dreams and social contact has become more progressive. For example, nowadays it is not too difficult to see a husband stay at to do housework and attend to kids while the wife is the breadwinner in the family.

In my mind, it is completely positive changes that help the woman step out of social barriers and pursue their dreams without being judged by society and young adults who want to have liberal and private life instead of living under the same roof as before. That is equality that women deserve after centuries of unfair treatment. In recent years, the housework is shared equally between husband and wife, it helps husband and wife understand each other’s hardships and appreciate each other even more. Living alone or in nuclear families will have more privacy for each other and reduce conflict between multi-generations. For instance, it is often said that the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law is always contradictory, so many young couples decide to live separately.

This positive tendency is increasingly more popular to decrease conflicts between generations or mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, while also reclaiming justice for women.
