We have been living in the nuclear age now for over half a century. Since the first atomic bombs were developed, nuclear technology has provided governments with the ability to totally destroy the planet. Yet the technology has been put to positive use as an energy source and in certain areas of medicine.

To what extent is nuclear technology a danger to life on Earth? What are the benefits and risks associated with its use?

Nuclear technology has revolutionized the way people live since its development over 50 years ago. Some believe that this innovation can cause destruction on Earth. However, in my opinion, although there are minimal risks associated with this technology, I extremely believe that it has a profound effect in making this planet more habitable in the years to come and in restoring the health of those suffering from certain illnesses.

The planet Earth has become more liveable since the introduction of nuclear technology through the use of nuclear power as an alternative source of electricity. Evidently, with this, the amount of carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere have been greatly reduced, thereby lowering global warming. Sweden, for instance, has been on the forefront in using this type of power to making this planet suitable for living even in the next centuries to come. Indeed, nuclear technology is advantageous to Earth.

Another benefit of using this type of technology can be more appreciated in the field of medicine. Certain illnesses are not only easily diagnosed but also treated because of nuclear medicine. For example, the hospital where I am currently working uses nuclear scan to detect cancer cells in the body and employs certain regulated levels of radioactive materials to target and kills these cells. Because of this, many lives are saved from deadly diseases.

However, using nuclear technology can cause death only if handled incorrectly. For example, the Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine happened because of human error in operating the nuclear reactor. If the personnel was trained properly, then this accident that affected thousands of people could have been prevented.

In conclusion, using this innovative technology is highly beneficial to making Earth a better place to live in and to restoring the health of the sick. In my opinion, nuclear does not immediately endanger humankind but rather raises the quality of living.
