Nowadays, tourism has become a booming industry in third world countries. But even with this phenomenon, some people argue that the marginalized see no difference in their living conditions and tourism is detrimental to a country's culture. However, I believe that it can be advantageous to the poor through employment opportunities, and there are a myriad measures to preserve traditions and ways of living.

Tourism can boost the economy as it creates more jobs, especially for the destitute individuals, thereby generating more income for a country. For example, the local government unit in our locality in the Philippines is hiring the impoverished members of society to help in the manufacturing of bamboo baskets, which are highly in-demand among the local and foreign visitors alike. Because of this, not only our town able to generate more funds, but also help the poverty-stricken people earn money for themselves. With this, the poor can also earn several benefits from tourism itself.

On the other hand, to preserve the cultures and traditions as tourism booms, the government should be at the forefront in raising awareness in maintaining such ways of life through giving pamphlets or through various advertisements. For instance, the Department of Tourism in the Philippines is actively advertising in social media its campaign, "It is more fun in the Philippines," showing and promoting the different, colorful and interesting cultures practiced in the whole archipelago. With this method, the citizens are reminded too of their roots, traditions, and practices, hence, helping in the preservation of such national identities.

In conclusion, the officials of a nation play a crucial role in helping the impoverished benefit from tourism, as well as making sure that cultural practices do not vanish while this type of industry grows.
