It is argued that studying a second language aims only for traveling or working overseas. Although those are the main purposes of acquiring foreign language skills, there are also other benefits.

People who have a plan to go to other countries for trips or jobs often study languages, which enables them to travel easier and work effectively in terms of communication. The pre-studied languages improve quality of trips and efficiency at work. For example, travelers would be able to get a recommendation of where they go, while taking with them, which makes their journeys more abundant. Furthermore, employees may be able to understand their bosses' instructions better with pre-acquired communication skills.

However, there are other crucial reasons why people should learn other languages. First of all, it enhances the ability to appreciate other cultures because languages are developed with cultures. When a new type of culture emerges, language speakers often create new words to express that. Therefore, cultures and languages are always combined, which means when we learn new languages we also learn about cultures. For example, drinking 'a cup of tea' is a traditional culture in the UK. When students are taught the expression, they often understand Eglish tea culture.

Second, learning a second language contributes children's brain development. This acquisition stimulates remembering and understanding abilities since it is a totally new experience for their brains. The brain works harder to get used to the new environment.
