Topic : Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Television, newspapers, magazines, and other media pay too much attention to the personal lives of famous people such as public figures and celebrities. Use specific reasons and details to explain your opinion.

When talking about how appropriate it is for the media to pay attention to personal lives of celebrities or public figures, I believe that there are many people who are against the media as it seems to them that those stories do nothing good for the society. Although I also think that there are no benefits of knowing about celebrities’ lives, I don’t agree that it is the media’s fault that they pay attention to those gossip.

To begin with, the media would not publish those celebrities’ stories if no one interested in them. According to a basic economics concept of demand and supply, the reason why private life stories of famous people are published is because someone is willing to read them. In my opinion, the media would have stopped reporting gossips if there were no readers or listeners. Also, as you can see that personal lives of public figures are often shared on social network websites such as facebook and twitter, it shows that there are a lot of people who love gossips. Those media do nothing wrong on doing their business and fulfill their customers' needs.

The other reason why I disagree with the above statement is that we, the consumers, can choose to pay attention only to contents we are interested in. For instance, if you love business, you can simply buy a business newspaper or watch business TV channels to avoid those annoying celebrities broke-up stories or the kind of clothes they wear to a party. If you are interested in technology, you can simply surf only technology websites or read only tech articles on newspapers. No one can force you to read those stories you dislike. Just don't pay attention to them and nothing can bother you.

To sum up, even though I think that famous people’s private life is not interesting, I don’t be annoyed by the way some media share those stories, as I know that there are a lot of people who love to catch up on them, and it’s not difficult to choose to read or watch only the stories that I enjoy. Therefore, I disagree with the statement that televisions, newspapers, magazines, and other media pay too much attention on famous people’s stories.
