Would someone read my short essay and correct the grammar? I do not like being wrong, but I know I have some mistakes in the essay and don't know where to find the answers. Thanks.
As a little girl, I would sleep with my head in the hall as I waited for Santa to come down our chimney. Each year I fell asleep before he arrived and when I awoke, the tree was surrounded with gifts. But we knew the rules: 1) The kids had to all be awake in order for us to open the gifts in our stockings – one brother stayed in his bed just to irate the rest of us. 2) No one was allowed to open any other gifts until Mom and Dad were awake, and we weren’t allowed to go wake them up. 3) We all eat breakfast together before gifts. 4) Mom had to get ready and presentable for all of the pictures that Dad would take.
When the time was finally there, we would start opening gifts. Each person took their turn to open one gift as the rest of the family would oooo and ahhh at the new treasure. We had four kids in our family so this ritual would take hours. My dad usually got the kids something that alike, so we would all open that gift at the same time but other than that each person had their moment in the unwrapping spotlight. As a child, you know nothing different than what your parents have taught you.
It wasn’t until I was married before I realized that Christmas morning might be different in other family’s homes. When my husband and I were first married, we went to my family’s home for Christmas. After we woke up the ritual began. He sat in awe as we waited for Mom and Dad to wake up. He was baffled that breakfast was being made before the gifts were open. Then he sat in amazement as Mom did her hair and makeup while the rest of the family waited around. When we got in our car to drive home that day, he shared how in their family they did Christmas morning entirely different. That made us start a discussion about what it would look like in our house on Christmas morning. We didn’t fully see eye to eye on how we should open gifts with our children one day, but there was one thing in which we agreed, Jesus was the reason we were even opening gifts. So no matter what your house looks like on Christmas morning, remember that you were given Jesus as a gift from God to show how much He loves you.
