The pie charts, one for the year 2010, the other for the year 2015, break down a government expenditure into several groups such as education, healthcare, pensions, defense, welfare, interest on borrowing, transport, culture and leisure. There is also a miscellaneous category for all other sources.
Overall, in both charts, education, healthcare, pensions, and defense are the top 4 areas of government expenditure. In contrast, the smallest areas of expenditure are transport, culture and leisure and other miscellaneous sources.
In detail, in 2010, 81% of expenditure belonged to the top 4 areas, 24% from education, 21% from healthcare, 19% from government, and 17% from defense. In 2015, government expenditure of these areas had a small decrease, with a total proportion being 74%, because government expenditure in healthcare and defense had been cut down to 20% and 14% respectively. After five years, both welfare sector and interest on borrowing sector increased by 5%. The opposite was true for transport, culture and leisure both of which fell to 1%.
