Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my interest in applying for admittance to the Master’s programmes in Civil and Architectural Engineering at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
I have completed my bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Cardiff University (UK) in 2012. Currently, I am working as a lecturer at the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering in North South University (NSU), Bangladesh. Where, I have taught introduction to soil mechanics, advanced foundation engineering, engineering materials and engineering drawing modules to students. Alongside my teaching duties, I am actively involved in research as well. My first conference paper was published in “Renewable Energy and its Innovative Technologies - Proceedings of ICEMIT 2017, Volume 1, Springer, Singapore. At present, I am leading a research group that focused on the safety condition of Bangladesh construction industry.
In parallel with my current academic duties, I am also an active participant in co-curricular and extracurricular activities. I am an associate editor of the NSU Engineering School’s newsletter. Besides this, I mentor my students in environment conservation and recycling process. I am also working as a conference secretary for the first “International Conference on Frontiers in Energy & Infrastructure” at North South University, Bangladesh. Also, I am serving my community as an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Institution of Civil Engineers (UK).
Prior joining as a lecturer at North South University, I have four years of industry experiences. I have worked on various projects in England, Bangladesh and Australia as a consulting engineer. Among all these, my most prominent project was Dhaka Metro Rail project. During these times, I experienced hands-on knowledge of engineering design, tendering, construction process, dealing with client and contractors, project management and project documentation process.
I have decided to apply for civil engineering masters program because I am sure it would actively enrich my future studies and help me in my prospective career. The career advancement opportunities that I will have after completing my master studies are something I see as an important factor in my decision to apply. I have chosen to apply for KTH Royal Institute of Technology because I really like its module system of studies. I especially appreciate the wide range of courses available to choose from moreover; the modules do not deliver only in the classroom instead it has a close connection with industry as well. Being a keen learner and an early stage researcher, I believe studying on a challenging and interesting research university like KTH Royal Institute of Technology will undoubtedly improve my potential and help me to become a successful researcher and engineer in my future career. Additionally, the opportunities for training and the idea of continuously developing new skills and gaining experience are also a big motivation to apply for this position.
I do believe my diverse and dynamic professional and academic background has endowed me with a strong platform to make a positive contribution as a master’s student at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden.
Yours Sincerely
Md. Tousif Rahman
